A to Z of women’s health FIBROIDS

F- FIBROIDS

A fibroid tumor is a benign growth of dense, fibrous tissue fed by blood vessels. It usually grows inside the uterus. Symptoms include pelvic pain, excessive bleeding, and abdominal swelling, pressure on the bowel or bladder, and infertility. Some don’t have any symptoms at all. Treatment includes hormonal medications, surgery, and uterine artery embolization which block the blood flow to the fibroid, causing it to shrink.
